SAMPLES Of STATEMENT OF PURPOSE (SOP)

Image
First Sample: How human social interactions and cultural inclination does affect business and workplace management? How is managing money, machines, materials, men and methods affected by employee’s personal identities, academic disciplines, social contexts, values and beliefs? Where can the study of business management intersect with conversations in ethnic and sociological studies? As I pursue a MSc in International Business Management, with a background in Sociology and workplace ethics, these questions will drive my research.   Growing up in Northern Nigerian afforded me the first hand experience of seeing a people blessed with unparalleled business ingenuity & a manpower that thrives in almost all endeavors. From processing of hide & skin to business engagements, to commercial agricultural practices to packaging of goods and services etc., my people find expertise at all of them. Often, the peace and warmness we had was punctuated by fracas occasioned by the poor ...

As sequel to the part I of this series. An irresistible SOP should state your motivations, not leave them to be read between the lines. It should connect your background to your proposed course of study. One way to get out your motivation/purpose is with an adequate choice of words at your first paragraph (The Problem Statement). How can I write a great problem statement? The following examples gives you insight to what makes for a great problem statement and defining first paragraph of an irresistible SOP. ---------------------------------- For a student of Civil or Construction Engineering "After [natural disaster], I saw whole villages floating away. I realized than that we need an affordable way to stabilize building foundations. This is very difficult to do on an alluvial plain, and I hope to learn from the anchoring of windmills and high-rise buildings how that can be adapted for residential life." ------------------------------ Another example for Civil Engineering Gra...

𝗛𝗢𝗪 𝗧𝗢 𝗪𝗥𝗜𝗧𝗘 𝗧𝗛𝗘 STATEMENT OF PURPOSE (S𝗢P) 𝗧𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗠𝗔𝗞𝗘𝗦 𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗔𝗣𝗣𝗟𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗜𝗥𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗜𝗦𝗧𝗔𝗕𝗟𝗘 (𝗣𝗔𝗥𝗧 𝗜)

The Statement of Purpose (SOP) is one of the defining application documents you submit for Graduate School consideration. While so much has been said about the content of an SOP, I like to share with you what makes an SOP stand out. I mean an SOP that makes the admission committee take a positive decisive interest on your suitability for MS/PhD work in their University. A standard SOP should basically have six (6) paragraphs viz; - Paragraph 1 - Problem statement - Paragraph 2 - Academic background (University only) - Paragraph 3 - Post Graduation experiences - Paragraph 4 - Study plans - Paragraph 5 - Post Study plans - Paragraph 6 - Conclusion Other than the six paragraphs above, there is an ingredient that immediately makes you the best applicant that is rarely taught or mentioned in your SOP. This ingredient is the rhetorical opener. A rhetorical opener basically rephrases your research interest into questions. Here is an example for a student of political science with researc...

The reason for the rejection of most international students for admission in the USA lies in the inability of the their documents to convince the admission committee that they are ideal candidates for admission. This piece provides the four documents that makes your application irresistible for US admission committees and gets you multiple admission in top-tier US admissions. 1.) Statement of Purpose 2.) Letters of Recommendation 3.) Writing sample 4.) Academic CV 𝟭. 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲- The SOP is the most important aspect of your application. The SOP if well written has the potential of elevating an ordinary profile to an irresistible one. Note, the SOP is not your bragging document or some historical story place. It is one document where you show you have deeply thought about Masters programme, processed your long and short term goals and have a solid plan towards achieving your goals. If you can present a coherent narrative in a short and effective document that...

WHY YOU SHOULD PUT ALL YOUR EGGS IN ONE GOOD BASKET.

"Don't put all your eggs in one basket" you've been told. But I have got a new idea to share with you. "It is better to put all your eggs in one good basket than a thousand baskets." If you're still wondering why, then keep reading. Do you know that not all baskets will hold your eggs? 💥Some may be broken. 💥Some may have wide openings which will let your eggs out. 💥Some may have insects or dirts dwelling within which will infest your eggs, crack them and drain the content. 💥Some may be too weak to hold your eggs. This is why you should be careful, not all baskets are worthy of your eggs. 💥While putting your eggs in different baskets, examine each basket properly to know the bad ones. 💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥   There are different opportunities to invest your time and resources, but not all opportunities are worthy of your time. Same thing applies to organizations, many graduates apply for the job but not all applicants are accepted. It's...

IMPORTANT TIPS ON SCHOOLING AND WORKING IN AMERICA

About schooling or living or working in America, I think a lot of people either live in bubbles or do not have quality information. So, I am going to do this once, and give as much information as I can, based off of my own limited experience and knowledge. Anyone with better information is free to complement or challenge what I say. “I know somebody who know somebody” is not information. That somebody you know might not be telling you the whole story. 1. To enter the US you need a visa, and there are different kinds – student visas (e.g. J-1 and F-1), fiancé visa (to come see your fiancé), spousal visa (for people who are married or coming to get married), H1-B visa (if a US employer employs you), etc.  2. As a student, whether on J-1 or F-1 you are only allowed to work 20 hours max a week, and usually on campus. Of course, there are students who exceed this work limit, usually working off-the-book, under-the-table jobs, which is illegal but not uncommon. 3. When you finish school ...

Africa Science Leadership Programme (ASLP)  Call for applicants 2022

2022   Africa Science Leadership Programme (ASLP)   Call for applicants 2022 Background The speed and quality of the development of science capacity in Africa and the rest of the developing world depends not only on infrastructure and the technical training of people, but is intimately linked to the quality of leadership to lead change. It is widely accepted that the future of scientific development lies in enabling interdisciplinary, interconnected and often large, international teams. Training structures are, however, often not set up to prepare a next generation of scientists for the complexities that an interconnected, interdisciplinary approach to science entails. There is an internationally emerging paradigm that recognizes that the focus on individual leadership is often inadequate to address complex challenges, which require skills across many sectors and collaborative processes. This was very evident during COVID-19 where collective leadership was critical to n...
