Dear Prof. Mitchel Bolton,


I am a recent graduate of Mass Communication from the Ebonyi State University, Nigeria (B.Sc First Class Honors). I also hold a Distinction in Mass Communication from OSISATECH Polytechnic, Nigeria. I am reaching out to you because our research interests intersect, and to express my interest in your research at the CHATR Lab, University of California, Davis. I would also like to know if you are accepting doctoral students for supervision in the PhD Communication program for Fall 2022.


I have gained research experience in areas of Media Effects, Media and Society, Social Media Studies, Ethnocentric/Indigenous Advertising, and Development Communication - as an undergraduate at Ebonyi State University, and as a graduate/research assistant at Benue State University, Nigeria. However, my current research interest is in the area of Health Communication. I am particularly interested in investigating how communication intervention strategies can be scientifically designed to combat Health Misinformation, especially during disease outbreaks.


Given the foregoing, some of the research questions I am interested in exploring include:

1. How do social media practice structure health misinformation dialogues?

2. In what specific ways do social media platforms influence users’ health decisions?

3. What novel communication strategies can be adopted in inoculating social media users against health misinformation?

4. How can social media be leveraged as communication intervention tools in countering health misinformation during disease outbreaks?


I strongly believe that your years of accumulated research experience will form an avenue for me to acquire immense scholarship and research experience in Health Communication.
