  Hello friends,  I just  want to inspire someone I have always loved academics and in spite of the limitations that I felt I had as a human being, I still forged ahead. I said limitations because most times we see only those things we can not do and we build our self-image around our deficiencies leading to inferiority complex. I had this negative image of myself for many years until  I changed my mind set and embraced the mantra that says  If I can think it, I can do it. I went into academics fulltime in 2010. Academics is not a terrain for mean minds and it is even more dearly when you are a woman. We women have to put in extra effort in other to succeed in what ever career we have chosen for ourselves, putting into consideration that you have the home front to maintain, the kids to take care of and a husband to pamper most times.  The task becomes even more onerous in academics because the unwritten rule is publish or perish. Nature Communications Early Career Researcher peer mentoring program - now accepting applications

Nature Communications  is now inviting early career researchers (ECRs) to apply for its ECR peer review programme. Launched last year, this programme is designed to be an opportunity for early career researchers to get formal training in peer review, guided by professional editors. Participants will learn what makes peer review constructive, get guidance on how to write a reviewer’s report, valuable for authors and editors, and have an opportunity to get involved in peer review. Participants will first attend an introductory webinar, held by editors of Nature Communications, explaining the value of the review process and how it’s done. Participants will then continue working one-on-one with a professional editor who handles manuscripts within the ECR’s area of expertise.   Applications are now being accepted from scholars at selected African universities for the   Harvard Center for African Studies postdoctoral fellowships . The fellowship programme is aimed at providing opportunities for postdoctoral candidates to conduct independent research, publish, and increase knowledge in their fields of study that will be beneficial to the African continent and to prepare them to be successful in their chosen career paths. The program offers 18-month postdoctoral fellowships with 12 months spent at the scholars’ home institution and six months spent in stipend-supported residency at Harvard University. TWAS Research Grant Programme

We are pleased to announce a new TWAS  Research Grant Programme , through the support of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF),  Seed Grant for New African Principal Investigators (SG-NAPI) . The call for 2021 is now open and will remain open until  27 July 2021. The programme is specifically aimed at  PhD graduates  from  selected African countries , who  obtained their PhD abroad within the last 5 years  and  returned home  within the last  36 months  or  will return home before the end of 2021 .
