These awards shine a light on the most innovative, scalable and replicable examples of what people around the world are doing to tackle climate change. Applications are welcomed from organizations, communities, cities, businesses, universities, governments and others that are taking concrete action on climate change. Call for Expressions of Interest: AFD-GDN Biodiversity and Development Award - deadline March 7

  The   Global Development Network   (GDN) and the   French Development Agency   (AFD) have jointly launched the AFD-GDN Biodiversity and Development Awards, to create a high-quality and high-visibility opportunity for researchers based in select developing countries to produce and disseminate quality research, especially multidisciplinary research, that is independent, of high quality, and policy relevant on the link between   biodiversity and development . The Awards consist of four competitively selected   individual research grants of  up to USD 40,000   for maximum 24 months, one of which is earmarked for Francophone Africa, plus   two additional grants   for winners that successfully develop a multi-disciplinary project together. T he International Centre for Theoretical Physics, are welcoming project proposals for their   Physics Without Frontiers   (PWF) programme. Scientists from developing countries, whether at home or abroad, who are interesting in developing a project with PWF are invited to submit project ideas. This programme works to motivate, train, and educate physics and mathematics university students worldwide, with focus on science and technology lagging countries, to help build the next generation of scientists. Each project is unique, developed with the country's specific needs in mind. Call for Applications: Bayer Women Empowerment Award for women entrepreneurs

  The   Bayer Foundation   has created a new award to empower women as key change makers and help female entrepreneurs generate social impact in Sub-Saharan Africa. Applications are now being accepted for the  Women Empowerment Award , which provides EUR 25,000 in cash to women's-led organizations that can generate large-scale social impact, plus an in-kind contribution that equals EUR 25,000 in the form of a 24-week growth accelerator. During this period, the winners will receive tailored support and training for scaling, including active investor feedback.   OWSD PhD Fellowship s  application for 2021 is hereby announced. The Fellowship is offered to women scientists from  Science and Technology Lagging Countries  to undertake PhD research in the natural, engineering and information technology sciences at a host institute in the South. Costs covered include travel to the host country, tuition fees, board, accommodation and living expenses, and a special allowance for travel to international conferences. The programme is administered with funds generously provided by the  Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency  (Sida) and is offered in partnership with host institutes throughout the developing world.   Applications are now being accepted for the Daniel Carasso postdoctoral fellowship, an initiative by the Fundación Daniel y Nina Carasso to support research on sustainable food systems. The Daniel Carasso Fellowship targets excellent young postdoctoral researchers of any nationality and scientific discipline, who are contributing actively to the transition to the sustainability of food systems. Each fellowship is endowed with up to Eur 160,000 to cover the salary and research activities of the awardee in a Spanish university or research center for a two-year period. CALL FOR APPLICATION: TWAS RESEARCH GRANT

  The Call for Applications is now open for the research grants for developing world scientists from OWSD's colleagues at   TWAS, the World Academy of Sciences . Under this scheme, grants are awarded to promising high-level research projects in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics carried out by scientists in one of the eligible S&T-lagging countries identified by TWAS. Grants are available for both individual early career scientists as well as research groups. Research Grants to individual scientists amount to a maximum of USD 15,000; grants to research groups may be up to USD 30,000. The grants, which are normally provided for a period of 24 months, may be used to purchase scientific equipment, consumables and specialized literature (textbooks and proceedings only). They do not cover salaries of researchers and/or students, field expenses, or travel expenses. In addition, the purchase of laptops, tablets, drones and laboratory animals is not supported. Applications open for AIMS Master's in Mathematical Sciences programme

  Applications are now being accepted for the Master's degree programme in Mathematical Sciences from the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS). This degree programme runs over three semesters. The requisite skills phase of the AIMS course builds a standard core set of problem-solving skills: estimation, computation, approximation, modelling, data analysis and statistics. The elective review phase allows students to apply these skills in some of the most exciting areas of science. During the final phase of the AIMS course students do a research project and write a scientific report under the supervision of an expert researcher on a topic of their choice. Research initiated in these projects often develops into further postgraduate research work after AIMS. No registration fees are required for the candidates selected for the Master’s degree.
