Academic CV for graduates of the fields of Medical Sciences such as Medical Laboratory Science, Nursing Science, Medicine and Surgery, Pharmacy, Public Health, Phisiotherapy, Optometry etc  is a whole lot different from what constitutes strength in CVs for Non-STEM disciplines. This is because admission Board for most  post graduate courses in Medical Sciences are interested in specific knowledge that the student seeking Graduate position must showcase in his/her CV. Some of these knowledge include; Clinical experience, Laboratory experience,  Internship, Residency, volunteering experience, licensing and certification, post certification experiences, affiliation, outreaches, passion etc. 

You must highlight the following in your CV:  research experience, Clinical/Laboratory experience, research interest, Volunteer/community services, applicable Clinical/ Laboratory skills and Leadership qualities.

The essential parts of an Academic CV for Medical Sciences graduates are;

PERSONAL DATA

Keep personal data limited to name and contact information, and use it in the header of your CV. Give your name exactly as it appears in your medical school records. Use an address, phone number, and email address that you check often.

EDUCATION 

- List the Institution from where you got your  certificate

- List Internship  and residency trainings as part of Education. 


CLINICAL/LABORATORY EXPERIENCE 

It is strength to list your post graduation Clinical/Laboratory experiences, using action verbs to outline your responsibilities and achievement. Mention your experience during internship and also during NYSC

RESEARCH EXPERIENCE 

For Nurses, Medical Laboratory Scientist, Public Health, Pharmacist and the like whose undergraduate work includes a final research project, this section is used to describe what your research was about and what you achieved with it. Action verbs are used here again. 

AWARDS/GRANTS AND SCHOLARSHIP

Mention all the awards, grants you received during your internship, youth service and also during your working experience. If you have ever won research grant or travel grant also mention them. Mention any scholarship you have ever received in the course of your study.

PUBLICATIONS 

In this section you mention your;

- Undergraduate thesis (If applicable)

- Published articles in medical journals and blogs

- Seminar presentation

List any papers you’ve published or presented by title, place, and date of publication or presentation. 

APPLICABLE SKILLS 

The skills to mention here are:

- Clinical/laboratory skills

- Research skills

- Critical Analysis skills

- Computational/Statistical skills 


PROFESSIONAL AFFILIATIONS 

Showing your membership/ affiliations to relevant professional bodies is crucial in order to show recruiting bodies that doing a post graduate studies in  medical sciences  isn’t just an idea for you, it’s a calling and you are also well grounded in your field.

VOLUNTEERING/COMMUNITY SERVICE 

Different courses in Medical Sciences are all about serving humanity and helping others. Volunteering proves better than almost anything else that you’re willing to help others based on principle and personal drive instead of money and titles. So, list your community service/volunteering activities, medical outreaches   you have participated in. 

REFEREES

List at least three referees that can attest to  the skills, Clinical/Laboratory experiences and academic achievement you have listed above.
