2023 OWSD-Elsevier Foundation Awards for Early Career Women Scientists in the Developing World

T his is a reminder that the Call for Applications for the 2023  OWSD-Elsevier Foundation Awards  is two weeks away, on  September 15, 2022 .   These awards reward and encourage women scientists working and living in  eligible developing countries  who are in the early stages of their careers,  having often overcome great challenges to achieve research excellence . Training early career scientists to respond to Africa's challenges in global health

  African Postdoctoral Training Initiative (APTI) has an opportunity for you.   The African Academy of Sciences ( AAS ), in partnership with the U.S. National Institutes of Health ( NIH ) and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation ( BMGF ), announces a call for applications for the 3 rd  cohort of the African Postdoctoral Training Initiative ( APTI ) fellowships. APTI Fellows are trained and supported to become scientific leaders who can advocate for increased research and innovation projects in Africa. This is done through 4-year postdoctoral fellowships where APTI Fellows are placed in various laboratories of the NIH Institutes or Centers (i.e., Intramural Research Program) for 2 years before returning to their home institutions in Africa for another 2 years of research. “One of the few things I learned this past few months is being empathic as a Teacher. See, here, you can not wake up and give your students an F even if you have valid reasons. You cannot try it. Before a student fails a course, there are various means you must have exhausted before asking them to retake the course. Let me break it down for you. So few weeks after the semester has started, the school will email you and ask you to identify students not doing well and has the possibility of failing your course. It is called early warning alert. It could be students not attending classes, not turning in assignments or not having textbooks or doing the wrong assignments. You will also identify the students doing good and the people just trying. The reports will be sent to the students and their success coaches. Each student has a success coach attached to them.   A graduate school letter of intent is a short essay outlining a person's achievements, skills, and goals within a certain field of study that would strengthen an application to a graduate school program within a given field. What is the purpose of a letter of intent for graduate school? Research-oriented graduate programs (Masters and PhD) often require applicants to submit letters of intent. Typically, a program admissions committee uses the letter of intent to determine whether the applicant's academic and career goals fit with the program and the professors' areas of expertise. A Graduate school letter of intent should therefore  include information on one's academic background, how you became interested in graduate school, your academic achievements, and other credentials.
